Building Envelope Science Institute Committees
BESI committees are developed to ensure that the Institute provides the best possible service and training for its members. Members of the committees will communicate primarily via email and phone, with monthly or bimonthly teleconference meetings as required to ensure that each committee meets its obligations to the Institute and its members.
The Board of Directors will appoint each committee chairman based upon their knowledge and experience in the construction industry and their ability to carry out the mission of the Institute and the committee that they chair. Committee members are selected based on their desire to serve, their knowledge of the area they are interested in, and their ability to commit time and resources to the Institute and to the committee that they are assigned.
Membership Committee
Responsible for the development and implementation of policies, practices and plans to encourage retention, growth and satisfaction of the Institute's members. The committee will review criteria and dues annually, proposing changes to the Board for consideration for approval or disapproval. The committee is required to report to the Board on membership status during the annual Board meeting.
The committee's mission: contacting prospective members (recruitment), providing them with information related to the benefits of being an Institute member; encouraging current members to refer potential members (utilizing campaign drives, prizes, etc.); conducting surveys of the membership base to obtain information about their needs and suggestions for improving the Institute; and encourage participation in the various committees or task groups that the Institute may form to address issues effecting the construction industry.
Responsibilities: Recruit members via marketing, publicity, booths; encourage current members to promote the Institute to friends and acquaintances within the construction industry; and make sure the needs, concerns and suggestions of the Institute's members are resolved.
Education Committee
Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive educational program to educate the Institute's members on specialist professional and construction industry related issues. The Committee shall investigate, consider and examine educational matters at the direction of the Institute's board and prepare any necessary recommendations to be presented to the board as required. The committee is empowered to investigate and prepare recommendations on any construction industry or building envelope science education related matter that will enhance the Institute's reputation for timely and relevant quality educational programs.
The committee's mission is to provide Institute members and construction industry practitioners with educational programs that offer a range of skills training, from basic knowledge & skills to more advanced knowledge & skills; that are timely and relevant; and maintain the reputation of the Institute.
Responsibilities: Conducting workshops, seminars, online courses, and cooperative education programs throughout the year that are designed to improve the knowledge and skills of participants; endeavoring to assist Institute members in keeping up with the latest best practices and technologies in the building construction industry.
Continuing Education Subcommittee
Responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of courses that will provide Continuing Education (CE) credits for Institute members and other professionals seeking to obtain credit for relevant education pertaining to the construction industry. Report and provides recommendations directly to the Education Committee.
Responsibilities: Obtain course approval from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to ensure that CE credits are available for the courses offered by the Institute (i.e. instructor qualifications); maintain course records; promote said courses; and other duties necessary to provide a quality educational experience for participants.
Technical Committee
The technical committee supports the information technology needs of the Institute and its members; responsible for oversight, guidance, and quality assurance for the Institute's website, publications, technical programs, and new products or techniques.
Responsibilities: The development and improvement of the Institute's website (i.e. new features), producing a bimonthly newsletter to keep members informed, the creation and population of the Institutes Library/Resources, and other duties as assigned.
The Board of Directors may establish other committees as deemed appropriate.
