Another home that was constructed with Defective “Chinese” Drywall was remediated under the protocol endorsed by the institute. The remediation process commenced on November 2009 and was completed during March 2010.

Background: The home was constructed in 2006, and for the next three years the owners experienced the failure of their HVAC system, television, refrigerator and computer. In September 2009 they had their home inspected for Defective Drywall which resulted in the positive identification of the drywall as “Made in China” and laboratory analysis that indicated the drywall contained elevated sulfur concentration that has been associated with the defective drywall.
Details of Interest: By following the BESI endorsed protocol, as it was written at the time of remediation, Drywall Disaster was able to successfully remediated the Durrance residence of residual H2S gases. No unexpected conditions or situations were encountered during the entire process of remediation and restoration with the exception of personal property.
The personal property was moved into POD’s prior to abatement and stored for 11½ months. The PODs had been closed and not opened during the storage time-frame. Upon the opening of the PODs it was evident that the odor of the defective drywall gases were still contaminating the personal property.
Drywall Disaster individually remediated the majority of the pieces of personal property using a BESI approved method. Unfortunately, some items were not permitted back into the residence and were discarded at the request of the owner.
Post-remediation analysis was performed, the results of this analysis indicates that the home is free from the effects of defective drywall and the cross-contamination caused by the gases – a successful remediation.
The owners has moved back home and required documentation has been provided to National Warranty Corporation for a proposed warranty.
